Student Funding Opportunities
The Salata Institute offers many ways for students to fund their climate internships, COP28 travel, student organization projects, and community projects. Beyond the Institute, Harvard offers many opportunities across disciplines, schools, and departments. This page is intended to be helpful guide — not an exhaustive list of opportunities.
Project Funding
Salata Institute Climate Collaboration Grant Program
The Salata Institute’s Climate Collaboration Grant Program supports student organizations across Harvard University which jointly undertake climate-focused initiatives. The purpose of the Program is to encourage student groups with a shared interest in climate change to work with one another and to foster collaborative projects that enrich student learning and contribute to the University’s efforts to meet the global climate challenge. Projects awarded through this program are eligible for funding up to $7,000.

Salata Student Climate Activities Fund
The Student Climate Activities Fund provides small one-time project grants to recognized Harvard student organizations. This funding supports student groups that undertake climate- and sustainability-focused activities or projects independently or in partnership with another student group. Awards up to $1,000 are available.

Radcliffe Engaged Student Grant Program
Student Type: All. The Radcliffe Engaged Student Grant Program provides $1,500 stipends per project to support the research, creative, and service work of Harvard undergraduate and graduate students on topics related to the Radcliffe Engaged focus areas.

Provost Fund for Student Collaboration
Student Type: All undergraduate, all graduate. The Provost Fund for Student Collaboration (PFSC) supports extracurricular academic collaborations that bring together students from at least three Harvard schools to explore a particular subject. The distinguishing characteristic of this fund is its devotion to academic enterprises (as opposed to primarily social, advocacy-based, or charitable activities). The fund is intended to enable students interested in a particular area of intellectual inquiry to explore that area with students enrolled in other schools. These one-year grants support specific activities, and do not provide continuing support.

DRCLAS Grants for Student Groups
Student Type: All Student Groups. Student Group Grants are awarded to Undergraduate Student Organizations, Graduate Student Organizations, University-wide student organizations, and Graduate Special Groups working with a Harvard faculty member for publications, workshops, conferences, and/or events at Harvard University related to Latin America, the Caribbean, or Latinx populations in the United States.

Presidential Public Service Fellowship
Student Type: All undergraduate, all graduate. Harvard’s Presidential Public Service Fellowship (PPSF) program supports a broad range of summer opportunities that serve the common good. Selected Fellows are involved in meaningful projects that affect communities across the United States. They are active in programs that focus on education, the arts, and government; work in social services and human rights organizations; and seek improved outcomes in health, the environment, and the justice system.

Global Health Institute Independent Funding
Student Type: Undergraduate. The Harvard Global Health Institute (HGHI) offers returning Harvard undergraduates in good standing the opportunity to participate in paid summer research and internship placements on the Harvard campus as well as across the world. These opportunities connect classroom knowledge and skills to the complex issues in the field. They range from placements in laboratories and research groups, to field work with hospitals and community health clinics, to office-based internships with NGOs and international organizations.

Provost Fund for Student Wellbeing

The Wellbeing Project Fund grant is a one-time, nonrenewable grant awarded to selected projects that embrace one or more principles of the Center for Wellness and Health Promotion’s Wellbeing Framework to promote emotional, environmental, intellectual, physical, relational, spiritual, and vocational wellbeing.

Summer Undergraduate Research Assistantships in China: Climate & Air Quality in China and Asia
Student type: Undergraduates. The Harvard-China Project on Energy, Economy and Environment will provide generous financial support for three to five Harvard undergraduates to participate in directed summer research under the guidance of university professors in China. Applications are now open and due on Monday, February 3.

Travel Funding
Salata Institute Travel Grant Program
The Salata Institute for Climate and Sustainability’s Travel Grant Pilot Program funds individual students who are planning trips for the purpose of advancing their academic or professional development goals.
Funding is available only for travel during the Fall, Spring, and Winter inter-session. The maximum grant is $1,000. The program welcomes applications from all Harvard students.
