Topics in Renewable Energy and Transmission Development Reading Group: Renewables, Transmission and Permit Reform: A Trade Worth Making?
Thursday, Oct 22, 2026, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Wexner 102, 79 JFK St, Cambridge, MA
During October 2026, Dr. Dan Schrag, Co-Director of the Belfer Center's Science, Technology and Public Policy Program, and clean energy entrepreneur Michael Skelly will host four discussions on carbon-free energy and the U.S. electric grid. The reading list introduces four practical debates shaping renewable energy development. The selections favor journalistic essays, policy explainers, and case studies written for highly educated readers who do not need a strong foundation in electricity policy.
Session Three: Renewables, Transmission and Permit Reform: A Trade Worth Making?
Discussion Focus: Are environmental reviews too slow? Should transmission and renewable energy receive special treatment? What tradeoffs are justified to build faster?
This reading group is open to all Harvard University ID holders.
