Join us for a seminar with Muhammad Ayaz, Mittal Institute Syed Babar Ali Fellow Spring 2025! He will present his research on global value chains with a focus on Pakistan’s garment industry. Learn more about his research here.

About the seminar: Intermediary actors, such as multilateral organizations, play a crucial role in shaping sustainability outcomes within global value chains (GVCs). This talk examines how governance structures can either enable or constrain sustainable practices in GVCs, using Pakistan’s garment manufacturing industry as a case study. By exploring the interaction between economic, political, and cultural dynamics, this research highlights how governance mechanisms often lead to unintended consequences, reshaping labor relations, and social outcomes in complex and sometimes contradictory ways.

Lunch will be provided! Please RSVP
