Equality and the City: Urban Innovations for All Citizens
Thursday, May 01, 2025, 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Bloomberg Center for Cities Taubman Building Third Floor, Harvard Kennedy School
15 Eliot St.
Cambridge
Join us for a compelling fireside chat with Enrique Peñalosa Londoño, former Mayor of Bogotá and author of Equality and the City. In this conversation, Peñalosa explores the central thesis of his book: that urban equality is not just a moral imperative, but a powerful framework for shaping better cities. Drawing from a wide range of global examples—from Bogotá to Long Island Sound—he will discuss how inequality undermines democratic values and urban development alike.
From transportation systems and land ownership to public space and housing, Peñalosa offers a provocative, human-centered vision for cities where policies are evaluated through the lens of equality. This is more than a retrospective on one mayor’s achievements—it’s a forward-looking exploration of how cities everywhere can become more just, sustainable, and livable for all.
Doors will open at 3:45 p.m. and the event will begin at 4:00 p.m.
Registration is requested as space is limited.
In-person event open to Harvard University ID holders.
