COP29 Simulation
Sunday, Nov 17, 2024, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
The COP29 Simulation will provide students the opportunity to step into the shoes of a diplomat or government official participating in the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This simulation is designed to equip participants with a practical understanding of the intricate processes and challenges faced by countries as they negotiate global climate action, with a particular focus on key COP29 themes, including climate finance, adaptation, and loss and damage. Each student will play the role of a specific country’s representative or delegate. Student-delegates will conduct research about their assigned country and its climate policies in alignment with the theme of the simulation.
The simulation will seek to elevate its impact by engaging with YOUNGO, the official youth constituency to the UNFCCC, and with delegates attending COP29 itself. This engagement will establish a bridge between its participants and the wider climate movement. Furthermore, the organizers will look to share a report highlighting the key discussions, resolutions, and outcomes of the simulation to YOUNGO, contributing these insights to the global conversation around climate change.
