Join the Harvard European Law Association for a talk by Professor Jan-Erik Schirmer on corporate climate governance and AI!

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is affecting climate change – for better or worse. This is also evident in corporate governance: On the one hand, legal designs that incentivize companies to use AI extensively and uncritically pose significant climate risks due to AI’s large carbon footprint. On the other hand, when used purposefully, AI can play an important role in effectuating corporate climate governance.

Globally, frameworks such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) or the SEC’s Climate Disclosure Rules are increasingly requiring companies to engage in corporate climate reporting and corporate climate planning. AI can provide valuable support in all of this. Not only can it help companies to more efficiently and accurately disclose emissions and identify climate-related risks. AI can also reduce the information overload and help recipients to better process the information provided in emissions and sustainability reports.
