Adaptive Environments

How do we design spaces that evolve with us—shaping, shifting, and adapting to the conditions, behaviors, and needs of those who inhabit them?

On Friday, April 25th, from 1:00-5:00 PM, leading voices from design, academia, and engineering will come together to explore how architecture can meaningfully engage with outdoor conditions and prioritize environmental responsibility - all while reflecting on its roots and historical context.

Discussions will explore material innovations and how emerging technologies—such as IoT, AI, and automation—are driving scalable, responsive, human-centered design across diverse contexts. Two case studies will be featured: Harvard HouseZero, an energy-positive prototype and living lab for exploring scalable solutions, and Vertikal Nydalen, Norway’s first naturally climatized mixed-use building.

Join us as we reimagine the built environment—not as something fixed, but as something that learns, reacts, and transforms to support both people and the planet.
