Rahul Mehrotra
Rahul Mehrotra is the founder of RMA Architects and a Professor of Urban Design and Planning at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. His Mumbai-based firm, established in 1990, has executed projects ranging from private residences to large-scale institutional and conservation efforts, including the restoration of the Chowmahalla Palace and a social housing project for elephants and caretakers in Jaipur. Mehrotra’s writings and exhibitions focus on architecture, urbanism, and conservation in India, introducing concepts such as the “Kinetic City” to understand urban dynamics. He also led the Harvard-wide research project on the Kumbh Mela, documenting the ephemeral mega city, and remains deeply involved in shaping discourse on Indian architecture and urban planning.
The Salata Institute
The Salata Institute supports interdisciplinary research that leads to real-world action, including high-risk/high-reward projects by researchers already working in the climate area and new endeavors that make it easier for Harvard scholars, who have not worked on climate problems, to do so. Faculty interested in the Climate Research Clusters program should note an upcoming deadline for concepts on April 1, 2024.
