Mellen Masea
Mellen is a junior from Kilifi, Kenya, studying Economics and Global Health & Health Policy. She is particularly passionate about exploring the intersections between climate and global
health. Mellen has prior research experience in climate justice, where she was a research partner for a Radcliffe-Salata Institute fellow. In this role, she contributed to reimagining the untapped potential of higher education institutions to advance systemic social change, aiming to reduce growing health inequities and climate vulnerabilities. She has also explored interests in sustainability through her consulting experience and her role as a student coordinator at the Office of Sustainability through the Resource Efficiency Program.
Currently, Mellen is a research assistant at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, focusing on the effectiveness of negotiations, implementations, and the impact of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Group of Twenty (G20).
In her free time, Mellen enjoys trying new cuisines, traveling to new places, and spending time with friends. She is excited to engage her peers in climate and sustainability initiatives on campus.
The Salata Institute
The Salata Institute supports interdisciplinary research that leads to real-world action, including high-risk/high-reward projects by researchers already working in the climate area and new endeavors that make it easier for Harvard scholars, who have not worked on climate problems, to do so. Faculty interested in the Climate Research Clusters program should note an upcoming deadline for concepts on April 1, 2024.
