Joel Schwartz
Joel Schwartz is an epidemiologist specializing in environmental health. His research focuses on the health effects of pollutants, particularly lead, air pollution, and water contamination. His work has contributed to understanding the cardiovascular and cognitive impacts of lead exposure, as well as the acute and chronic health risks associated with fine particulate matter and ozone. He has also studied the effects of extreme heat on mortality, including in the context of air pollution, and has advanced methodological approaches for epidemiological studies.
The Salata Institute
The Salata Institute supports interdisciplinary research that leads to real-world action, including high-risk/high-reward projects by researchers already working in the climate area and new endeavors that make it easier for Harvard scholars, who have not worked on climate problems, to do so. Faculty interested in the Climate Research Clusters program should note an upcoming deadline for concepts on April 1, 2024.
