
James Frederick
James Frederick was the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health under the Biden Administration. He brings over 30 years of experience in worker safety and health, including 25 years with the United Steelworkers Union. His work at OSHA focuses on fostering worker involvement, enhancing hazard control, and protecting whistleblowers from retaliation. He also introduced OSHA’s first national family liaison to support families affected by workplace incidents and works to modernize the agency’s tools and communication strategies.
The Salata Institute
The Salata Institute supports interdisciplinary research that leads to real-world action, including high-risk/high-reward projects by researchers already working in the climate area and new endeavors that make it easier for Harvard scholars, who have not worked on climate problems, to do so. Faculty interested in the Climate Research Clusters program should note an upcoming deadline for concepts on April 1, 2024.
