Harshil Kamdar
Dr. Harshil Kamdar is Lead Senior Scientist at Insight M with a strong educational background in astronomy, physics, earth science, and computational science. Dr. Kamdar earned his PhD and Master’s degrees from Harvard University in 2021 and has served in various leadership roles, including serving as the co-chair of ComSciCon’s leadership team. Dr. Kamdar’s expertise spans both scientific research and leadership, making significant contributions to both academia and industry in astronomy and climate science. Dr. Kamdar’s research project at the Salata Institute, entitled “Climate Catalysts: Methane Super-Emitter Detection & Mitigation by Fusing Aerial & Satellite Data,” focuses on detecting and mitigating methane super-emitters by integrating aerial and satellite data. Dr. Kamdar will develop a comprehensive multi-scale dataset of methane emissions to better understand the field performance of various detection technologies. This work involves collaborating with experts to improve detection methodologies and organizing a seminar series on super-emitters to foster collaboration among academics, industry, and regulators.
The Salata Institute
The Salata Institute supports interdisciplinary research that leads to real-world action, including high-risk/high-reward projects by researchers already working in the climate area and new endeavors that make it easier for Harvard scholars, who have not worked on climate problems, to do so. Faculty interested in the Climate Research Clusters program should note an upcoming deadline for concepts on April 1, 2024.
