
Debal Deb
Debal Deb is an Indian ecologist and founder of Basudha, a rice conservation farm in Odisha, India. He has preserved over 1,400 varieties of heirloom rice, safeguarding India’s agricultural biodiversity and supporting food sovereignty. He has rescued 1480 rare rice landraces, several endangered plants, and many ancient sacred groves from extinction. His latest book Beyond Developmentality (2009, Earthscan/ Routledge) contributes to development studies and ecological economics.
The Salata Institute
The Salata Institute supports interdisciplinary research that leads to real-world action, including high-risk/high-reward projects by researchers already working in the climate area and new endeavors that make it easier for Harvard scholars, who have not worked on climate problems, to do so. Faculty interested in the Climate Research Clusters program should note an upcoming deadline for concepts on April 1, 2024.
