
Akhil Srivastava
Akhil Srivastava is a Scientist at the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India. He specialises in Heat Wave & Cold Wave forecasting services, Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) and mesoscale modelling. His research focuses on impact-based forecasting of heat waves, forecasting of tropical cyclones, and nowcast modelling. He has co-authored studies on extreme weather events in India, including hot weather hazards and cyclone prediction. Mr Srivastava has been actively involved in IMD’s initiatives, contributing to discussions on heatwave monitoring, forecasting, preparedness and anticipatory actions.
The Salata Institute
The Salata Institute supports interdisciplinary research that leads to real-world action, including high-risk/high-reward projects by researchers already working in the climate area and new endeavors that make it easier for Harvard scholars, who have not worked on climate problems, to do so. Faculty interested in the Climate Research Clusters program should note an upcoming deadline for concepts on April 1, 2024.
