Harvard First Year Climate Primer Program

The Harvard Climate Primer Program is a student-driven peer-peer learning program designed to engage pre-matriculated First-Year Harvard College students with Climate and Sustainability topics during the summer before their first semester. Through a combination of interactive modules, discussions, and hands-on projects, students accepted to the program will gain a deeper understanding of climate issues, start building connections and community with their peers, and explore pathways for meaningful action, engagement, and learning when they arrive on campus.

By participating in this program, students will not only gain valuable knowledge but also become part of a vibrant community of changemakers dedicated to making a positive difference in the world.

The Program is student-led and the Salata Institute for Climate and Sustainability seeks up to 2 Student Cohort Leaders and up to 3 Student Program Coordinators for the Climate Primer Program.

Student Cohort Leader

Position Details

  • Responsibilities:
    • Assisting with resource, program, and curriculum development
    • Teaching program participants the devised curriculum, offering office hours and mentorship
    • Building community with participants
  • Compensation: $1,500 stipend
  • Time/Duration: ~3 hours/week starting March – August 2025

Student Program Coordinator

Position Details

  • Responsibilities:
    • Assisting with resource, program, curriculum development, and speaker coordination
    • Overseeing programming throughout the summer, offering Cohort Leaders administrative support as needed
    • Organizing the final Project Symposium event
  • Compensation: $20/hour
  • Time/Duration: ~3-5 hours/week starting February – September 2025

Applicant Qualifications
  • Program participants must be incoming freshmen at Harvard College
  • Students should have an interest in topics related to climate, sustainability, or the environment
    • No prior experience or education in these fields is required
