On Competing Models of Sustainable Design and Their Diffusion in Practice

Description

This lecture course surveys models of sustainable design, tracing each back to its historical and philosophical roots and forward to its implications in practice and the collective outcomes of urban architecture. It begins with lectures exploring histories of sustainable design as a recurring and persistent category of design problem. The course then moves into in-depth examination of approximately six leading practitioners working at the forefront of sustainable urban architectural design. Through detailed protocol analysis, students will investigate how sustainable design is negotiated and realized in practice.
