Mengxiang (Louis) Liu
Mengxiang (Louis) Liu is a first-year Master of Science student in Environmental Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, concentrating on Climate and Sustainability. His research interests lie at the intersection of environmental policy and corporate decarbonization, applying quantitative methods to evaluate climate actions. He is particularly interested in leveraging artificial intelligence to advance low-carbon quantification and assessment models, integrating data-driven analytics with sustainability evaluation frameworks to inform evidence- based climate strategies.
Louis received a B.A. in Computation and Design with a track in Social Policy and a concentration in Environmental Sustainability from Duke University, and a B.L. in International Relations and Affairs with a focus on Environmental Sustainability from Duke Kunshan University. His undergraduate Signature Work examined Scope 3 emissions and policy narratives in the electric vehicle industry using text-analysis and policy diffusion methods. He also contributed to low-carbon technology inventory projects in collaboration with the Kunshan municipal government, providing policy guidance for the deployment of low-carbon technologies across key industrial sectors. In addition, he has worked for corporations such as the Kering Group and SLB on corporate sustainability and ESG strategy development.
Outside of academics, Louis enjoys R&B music, outdoor activities, and exploring diverse food cultures.
The Salata Institute
The Salata Institute supports interdisciplinary research that leads to real-world action, including high-risk/high-reward projects by researchers already working in the climate area and new endeavors that make it easier for Harvard scholars, who have not worked on climate problems, to do so. Faculty interested in the Climate Research Clusters program should note an upcoming deadline for concepts on April 1, 2024.
