Matteo Markel
Matteo Markel is a sophomore in Leverett House, studying Integrative Biology with a further interest in Environmental Sciences and Engineering. He originally got involved with sustainability at his high school in Switzerland, where he was responsible for running a small scale aquaponics system, helping design a scaled up version to deploy commercially with a local community on the coast of Ghana. At Harvard, Matteo runs the Undergraduate Clean Energy Group’s Ventures Initiative, serves on the board of the Woodbridge International and Italian Societies and is building a social enterprise at the Harvard Innovation Labs. His hobbies include learning languages, hiking with the Harvard Outing Club, performing in musicals, traveling and cooking with friends.
The Salata Institute
The Salata Institute supports interdisciplinary research that leads to real-world action, including high-risk/high-reward projects by researchers already working in the climate area and new endeavors that make it easier for Harvard scholars, who have not worked on climate problems, to do so. Faculty interested in the Climate Research Clusters program should note an upcoming deadline for concepts on April 1, 2024.
