Juan Álvarez-Vijande Landecho
Juan Álvarez-Vijande Landecho is currently pursuing a Post-professional Master’s in Design Studies at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design (GSD). His research focuses on the intersection of architecture, ecology, and thermodynamics, exploring regenerative development and design strategies aimed at creating systems that enhance the well-being of multispecies and environments alike. By emphasizing the potential for reciprocity among stakeholders, Juan addresses the challenges of global warming, seeking to improve and restore ecosystems, communities, and environments to foster resilience and long-term vitality.
Before enrolling at the GSD, Juan worked as a licensed architect in Madrid, Spain, and co-founded J+R Architects & Associates in 2018. Prior to this role, he had the opportunity to collaborate with renowned architects such as Rafael Moneo and Izaskun Chinchilla, making significant contributions to various national and international projects.
During his studies at the Architectural Association in London and Zhejiang University in China, Juan developed a keen interest in community participation, symbiotic design, and landscape architecture for neo-rural communities, recognizing them as pivotal drivers of local regenerative development.
Juan completed his Master’s degree in Architecture at the San Pablo C.E.U. University Institute of Technology, where he was awarded the “CEU TALENT PLUS” diploma in recognition of his exceptional academic profile and extracurricular activities.
His work has been exhibited and presented in galleries and universities across the United States, France, England, China, Italy, and Spain.
The Salata Institute
The Salata Institute supports interdisciplinary research that leads to real-world action, including high-risk/high-reward projects by researchers already working in the climate area and new endeavors that make it easier for Harvard scholars, who have not worked on climate problems, to do so. Faculty interested in the Climate Research Clusters program should note an upcoming deadline for concepts on April 1, 2024.
