Salata Institute Funds 14 Climate Projects

The Salata Institute Seed Grant Program, launched in April to enable new interdisciplinary research in climate and sustainability, has announced its first cohort of awards. The program will support 19 faculty members working across seven Harvard Schools with funding for projects ranging from exploring a new, algae-based building insulation material to researching the carbon footprint of AI-driven computing. Salata Institute Funds New Student Organization Collaborations in Sustainable Transit, Environmental Justice

The Salata Institute for Climate and Sustainability has awarded two new collaborative student projects through the Student Organization Funding Program. This Fall, one awarded group will conduct a campus-wide transit survey to help improve sustainable transportation options on campus and one awarded group will organize a conference exploring the intersection of law, public health, and environmental justice.

Melting Ice, Dirty Air: Two New Burke Climate and Health Fellows Will Tackle Pressing Questions 

A thawing Arctic is disrupting webs of subsistence livelihoods in the permafrost peatlands of Sápmi. At the same time, air pollution in the U.S. is driving poorly understood health impacts among children. Today, the Salata Institute and Harvard Global Health Institute announced the appointment of two Burke Climate and Health Fellows who will launch studies focused on these urgent issues at the nexus of climate change and health. Annikki Herranen-Tabibi will examine the health impacts of climate change and local responses in Sápmi and Jenny Lee will investigate the health impacts of air pollution on socioeconomically disadvantaged children in the U.S.
